The Golden Years!

Just felt like writing something today and what better than penning down the thoughts that keep with me always!

It’s July 2002 and I am going to begin a new chapter of my life. I had dreamed of joining an IIT for the last 3 years and worked endlessly to achieve that in the last one year and here I am now.I will be living in a hostel now, the first time alone and away from my home, but having prepared too long for this, I know I will be fine. When I reach there, I am a little apprehensive, a little excited but mostly looking forward to what this new world has got to offer to me. I find that a girl from Lucknow is going to be my room-mate and my dad gets a whole background check on her, what caste she is, is she a vegetarian or not etc. etc. and seems satisfied for now. It’s not long before she comes in with her dad and the four of us decide to go to a trip to Hardwar since we still have a day ahead of us before the semester begins. This was just the beginning of the endless trips to Hardwar, Hrishikesh and Dehradun we were going to make in the 4 years to come. By the time we came back to Roorkee, we had already found a special bond between us, but little did I know that I had found a best friend the first time in my life. It was shortly after, that we met our neighbors – the would-be inseparable duo of Charu and Kshipra. The four of us have stayed through the thick and thin of college life and come out as the bestest of friends and will remain so forever- touchwood! I love you guys!

I would need much more than just a blog to describe the four years of college- the roller coaster of a ride that it was. I went in as a coy, salwar-kameez clad, typical conservative small town Hindu Brahmin girl and came out with the same set of values and ethics, but a lot more confident, open and experienced in the ways of the world. Or, as some of my friends might say, “ladki thoda bigad gayi”:) This was the golden chapter of my life, which I would always miss. My amazing friends, Nishtha, Sidhu, Nishit, Jitu, Ankur, Rohit, Saurabh, each and every one of you have a special place in my heart. Thanks for being there with me though all the good times and for me in the not-so good times as well. And everytime I remember the college days, I cannot help but remember the PM group –you always make me smile-I will always be your GM! :)

I cannot believe it has been more than three years already! It feels like yesterday when we were all together, sprawled in the SB lawns, having midnight bakar sessions at Maheshji’s canteen, hanging out at Nesci, devouring butter paranthas at Snack Point, wish I could be there all over again!

Newly Arrived
